States want World Cup bid coordinator

State leaders will demand the appointment of a coordinator to oversee Australia's
bid to host soccer's World Cup.
State and territory leaders met in Adelaide on Thursday and resolved to ask the
commonwealth government and Football Federation Australia to appoint a bid
coordinator.
NSW Premier Nathan Rees said state and territory leaders unanimously backed for
Australia's bid to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.
But the leaders wanted a national bid coordinator appointed "to oversee the bid and
beyond the bid", he said.
"We will be raising that directly with the prime minister," Mr Rees told reporters
in Adelaide.
"We are in a situation where we need a number of particular stadiums of particular
style and capacity.
"And we need to make sure that bid is coordinated with regards to provision of those
stadiums, the identification of the amenities and facilities that will be required."
South Australian Premier Mike Rann said a national bid coordinator was a "very
positive idea".
"This is not just a bid for the commonwealth or for the Football Federation of
Australia," Mr Rann said.
"This involves all of Australia, including all of the states who are stakeholders in
it.
"Obviously, there are clear cost and other implications for the states, that is why
we believe there should be a national coordinator for the bid for the World Cup."
