AZERBAIJAN ADOPTS LEGISLATION ON MILITARY PARTICIPATION IN PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS
Baku, 28 October (AzerTAc). The Azerbaijani parliament has adopted a new legislation regulating the participation of the country`s military in peacekeeping operations.
Siyavush Novruzov, a member of the parliament`s committee on security and defense, said the law would lay legal foundations for “our military to participate in peacekeeping operations to prevent local and regional conflicts”.
Azerbaijani soldiers and officers have so far been involved in peacekeeping operations only on the basis of bilateral agreements.
“The new legislation will set the status and functions of the Azeri military to be involved in such operations,” added Novruzov.
The legislation fully authorizes the parliament to send and call back the country`s military contingent to be involved in peacekeeping operations.
