UNESCO ANTI-DOPING CONFERENCE UNDERWAY IN PARIS

Baku, 28 October (AzerTAc). Paris has been hosting the Conference of States Parties to the International Convention against Doping in Sport from Monday.
The 3-day conference brings together about 250 government representatives to discuss the future of the fight against doping in sport.
The Convention has already been ratified by 127 States.
The opening ceremony featured speeches by Koichiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO; Wilfried Lemke, the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Sport for Development and Peace; John Fahey, President of the World Anti-Doping Agency; Arne Lundqvist, Chairman of the International Olympic Committee Medical Commission; and Miguel Sagarra, Vice-President of the International Paralympic Committee.
The conference will examine the administration of the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport, created by UNESCO in application of the Convention.
The conference will also examine the electronic system set up by UNESCO to monitor the implementation of the Convention, and adopt a list of substances and methods banned in sport so as to dispose, by 1 January 2010, of a list that is harmonized between States and sports organizations.
The conference will hear a report by the World Anti-Doping Agency about the implementation of the World Anti-Doping Code.
Azerbaijan`s minister of sports and youth Azad Rahimov is also attending the event.
