Japanese Brands Dominate Top 7 in U.S. Car Reliability Survey

New York, Oct. 27 (Jiji Press)--Japanese brands occupied the top seven in Consumer Reports' annual automobile reliability survey report announced Tuesday.

Toyota Motor Corp.'s <7203> Scion luxury car brand ranked first in
the U.S. magazine's survey, followed by Honda Motor Co. <7261>, Toyota,
Nissan Motor Co.'s <7201> Infiniti brand, Honda's Acura, Mitsubishi Motors
Corp. <7211> and Toyota's Lexus.
Japanese vehicles were rated most reliable in nine of 10 sectors.
Honda's Insight hybrid ranked No.1 among small cars and Toyota's Prius
hybrid, among family sedans.
In contrast, six of the 10 least reliable cars were U.S. brands,
with four models from Chrysler Group LLC and two from General Motors Co.
Among the Big Three U.S. automakers, Ford Motor Co. won the highest
credit, with 46 of 51 models found to have average or better reliability. GM
received such ratings for 21 out of 48 models, and Chrysler merely one out
of 26.
The survey, conducted in March this year, is based on responses on
1.4 million vehicles owned or leased by subscribers to the magazine.
