Iran snatches 6 gold medals in Uzbekistan Jujutsu competitions

Iranian men snatched six gold medals in the Asian Jujutsu Competitions in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Tuesday.

Ali Araqi (-62kg), Iman Haj Hashemi (-69kg), Saber Faqih (-77kg), Hamid-Reza Ne'mati (-85kg category) Mohammad Safari (-94kg) and Mohammad-Reza Mobarra (+94kg) bagged the gold medals.

Meanwhile, Iranian women snatched three gold and two silver medals in the same event on Monday evening.

Women athletes from Pakistan and Iran ranked first and second respectively in the Kata section, while athletes from India and South Korea jointly ranked third in the event.

Some 11 teams from Iran, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, India, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam and Iraq are participating in the event.

The competitions opened in Tashkent on October 22 and will work until October 30.

Jujutsu literally meaning the "art of softness," or "way of yielding" is a collective name for Japanese martial art styles including unarmed and armed techniques.

Jujutsu evolved among the samurai of feudal Japan as a method for defeating an armed and armored opponent without weapons.
