Iran, Pakistan to sign comprehensive security pact
I.R. of Iran's Interior Minister Mohammad Mostafa Najjar said Iran and Paksitan will sign a comprehensive security pact in the near future which will be implemented after being ratified by Iranian parliament (majlis).
Speaking to IRNA after his meetings in Islamabad, Najjar said the main points of his agreements included border security, drugs, human and weapons smuggling, and exchange of security information.
Najjar said according to the agreements, governor general of Sistan and Baluchestan in Iran and governor of Baluchistan in Pakistan will have meetings adding that the cooperation between the neighbouring areas can solve many problems in future.
Referring to the old and historical relations between Iran and Pakistan, Najjar said, "The government of Islamabad has been committed to have comprehensive security and intelligence cooperation with Iran and we are hopeful that this cooperation will bear fruit very soon.”
He said, ” In my meetings with Pak Interior Minister Rahman Malik and Head of Pak Army Intelligence General Ahmed Shoja Pasha, I told them that Iran has always tried to keep its borders secure but unfortunately, our borders with Pakistan have created problems for us.”
Najjar said,” The mischievous acts of Rigi terrorist group, which is an agent of the world hegemonic powers, have put a strain on the friendly and brotherly relations of Iran and Pakistan and the two countries need more strategic cooperation to remove these problems.”
“ World hegemonic powers have always tried to employ mischievous groups and people to disrupt the security in the regional countries. Persuading this policy, they have equipped the Rigi group and have made some problems in Iran’s eastern borders,” said Najjar.
“Our documents show that the agents of Rigi group are using advanced equipment which have been provided by the agents of the world arrogance and the group aims to create division between the Shia and Sunni Muslims and make obstacles in the way of development in Sistan and Baluchestan.”
Najjar said he had asked the Pak officials to solve the security problems in their southwest borders adding that, ”Iran and Pakistan are two friendly and brotherly countries and we expect Islamabad not to let the terrorists and especially the members of Rigi group ply in the area.”
Referring to the recent terrorist event in Sistan and Baluchestan in which some Iranian Shia and Sunni Muslims, as well as heads of Baluchi tribeas and some commanders of Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) were martyred, Najjar underlined that borders between Iran and Pakistan have always been borders of peace and friendship and nowadays, the borders of Iran are the most secure borders for Pakistan and I.R. of Iran expects the same in its borders with Pakistan.
“Security is prerequisite for development and as long as sustainable security is not established, regional countries will always face insecurity in their governmental affairs,” said Najjar
