Tander the man at Gold Coast V8 event
Holden's Garth Tander has claimed the honours in Saturday's action at the Super GP
V8 Supercar event on the Gold Coast.
Tander backed up his second place finish in the day's first 150km race to win the
second 150km event in the afternoon - his sixth victory at the Surfers Paradise
street circuit.
The Holden Racing Team pilot finished ahead of race one winner Mark Winterbottom,
who showed little signs of the glandular fever he's suffering to finish second
overall on the day.
In the day's first race, Winterbottom used the advantage gained by securing pole
position earlier in the morning to lead from start to finish and claim FPR's first
race win of 2009.
Tander's teammate Will Davison made the most of a tough day for championship leader
Jamie Whincup to claim third place in both races and cut the gap to Whincup to a
mere 41 points.
The Team Vodafone ace did well to battle back from an early puncture in the day's
first event to finish eighth in the second race and claim 78 points for the day, but
has still given his rival a boost before Sunday's racing.
The Super GP continues on Sunday with a 20-minute all-in qualifying session before
two more 150km races.
