CONFERENCE ON CASPIAN SEA SECURITY WRAPS UP
Baku, October 23 (AzerTAc). A conference on the Caspian Sea security has ended here today with attendance of Deputy Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran.
The aim of the conference was to establish cooperation among five countries in multilateral format, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov told a news conference on the outcomes of the event. The Caspian security summit in Tehran in 2007 made Azerbaijan government responsible for preparing cooperation projects and hosting this summit. During the 2-day talks, the parties discussed main principles of the draft agreement on ensuring security in the Caspian basin. As a result of negotiations, the agreement was passed in the first reading. The document will be finally approved during future meetings.
The agreement envisages cooperation among emergency, customs, frontier and interior agencies to fight illegal transportation, drugs turnover, migration, arms and human trafficking, terrorism.
The next meeting will take pace in the first quarter of 2010 in Baku.
