Defense minister: Enemies afraid of Shia-Sunni unity

Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said on Sunday that the recent terrorist act in Sistan-Baluchestan province indicated that the enemies are afraid of consolidation of unity between people, officials and the armed forces.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Defense Ministry, the defense minister strongly condemned the inhuman and savage move and expressed condolences to families of the victims and the Iranian nation over the incident.

The support of certain governments which masterminds such plots once again revealed their enmity and hostile attitudes towards promotion of tranquility, security and welfare of the oppressed people in Sistan-Baluchestan province, he said.

Attacking a meeting aimed at strengthening unity and upholding security and welfare in the region with participation of tribal leaders proves to what extend the enemies are afraid of consolidation of unity among religious sects in the province, he said.

The enemies should bear in their minds that they will never attain their sinister goals which will backfire through firm determination of people and officials, he pointed out.

There is no doubt that the blood and sacrifices of the martyred commanders during the eight years of sacred defense which resulted in upholding Iran’s dignity would once again serve to disgrce the enemies and lead to eradication of insecurity and terror in the eastern parts of the country, said the defense minister.
