Malaysian business keen to invest in mega-projects
BANGKOK, Oct 16 (TNA) – The Malaysian business community is showing interest in investing in mega-projects to be implemented under the Thai Khem Keng (strong Thailand) scheme, according to Government Spokesman Panithan Wattanayakorn.
Speaking after the chairman of the Kuala Lumpur Business Council led 32 Malaysian businesspersons to make a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, he said the leading business figures wanted to know the government’s clear policy on investments because they are paying attention to investing in Thailand’s mega-projects.
They also inquired about the unrest in the restive South which shares a common border with northern Malaysia, and the political situation in Thailand.
“These businesspersons still have confidence in Thailand. They met leaders in various business sectors and received affirmations that the Thai premier is open to investors.
“The premier conceded that the local political situation is somewhat troublesome. However,” Dr Panithan said, Prime Minister Abhisit’s government “has introduced several measures to prevent impacts on investment.”
Additionally, he said, the Malaysian businesspersons inquired about the personal affairs of the premier, such as going to performances and what he does for relaxation.
The premier reportedly told them he always felt relaxed whenever he had done the job. (TNA)
