PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES DELEGATES OF OIC MINISTERS OF CULTURE`s 6TH CONFERENCE
Baku, October 14 (AzerTAc). President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Tuesday delegates of the 6th Conference of Ministers of Culture of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) underway here in the framework of the cultural year “Baku-Islamic Culture Capital-2009”.
President Ilham Aliyev assessed the conference, issues being discussed and decisions to be adopted as an “important event in terms of strengthening relations among countries and Islamic solidarity”.
According to the Head of State, “such events are important in strengthening of participant countries` international positions, as well”.
Touching upon the Armenia Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the President said Armenia does not honor four resolutions adopted by the United Nations Security Council which demands unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
He underlined to achieve peace and stability in the region the conflict must be settled on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
President Ilham Aliyev pointed out the fact that Baku was declared the capital of Islamic Culture in 2009 was “great honor for us”. Various relevant events are underway in Baku and it demonstrates that Azerbaijan located between East and West continuously contributes to a dialogue between civilizations, he added.
Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri thanked President Ilham Aliyev for his “great attention to the conference participants and support for the activities of OIC and ISESCO”.
Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri also stressed contributions of President Ilham Aliyev and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva to developing inter-cultural dialogue.
Culture ministers of Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Syria said the capital of Azerbaijan which has old history was a reliable bridge between East and West in popularization of the Islamic Culture.
President Ilham Aliyev described the conference as “days of friendship and brotherhood”.
The Head of State noted decisions adopted during the conference would contribute to strengthening of the Islamic unity even more.
