FFA pressured Roar to sack me: Farina
(AAP) - Dumped Brisbane Roar coach Frank Farina has accused the Football Federation Australia of pressuring the A-League club to terminate his contract following his highly publicised drink driving charge.
Farina said he'd been made a scapegoat in a nightmare season for the Roar who've
endured poor attendances and struggled with an even worse disciplinary record.
"At the board meeting they did say to me that they were getting pressure from the
FFA (to sack him)," Farina said on Wednesday.
"Whether that was because the FFA are talking about coming in (as Roar investors) I
am not sure."
Farina fronted the seven-man board on Monday night when they made a call on his future.
However Tuesday's scheduled announcement was delayed for 24 hours due to a dispute
over his pay out.
"I have been disappointed with what I see as a total lack of support since the event
happened," Farina said.
"When I met the board I could tell pretty much five minutes into the meeting that a
decision was going to be made which was not exactly in my favour.
"There is a duty of care for all employees, obviously on this occasion I feel like I
have been made a scapegoat.
"There are processes they can go through, none of the processes have been tried."
The Roar are believed to have postponed announcing its decision to sack Farina as
they tried to work out compensation on his reported $250,000 a year contract which
had another season and a half to run.
"It was almost as though I had been offered something to go away and be quiet,"
Farina said.
"All I want is something that is fair."
