MINISTRY OF DEFENSE HOLDS CONFERENCE ON AZERBAIJANIS` ROLE IN VICTORY OF GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR

Baku, 13 October (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry today has held a conference on “Azerbaijanis` exceptional role in the victory of Great Patriotic War in 1941-1945”.
The Ministry`s top official Abdullah Gurbanov said President Ilham Aliyev approved on June 22 a National Program concerning 65th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Gurbanov said the Ministry has already developed an action plan in connection with the Program. According to him, a serious of events will be organized, including “the Victory day” on 9 may, 2010.
The National Program will be carried out in 2010.
Gurbanov said the topic on the Great Patriotic War has always been in focus of the ministry.
Other speakers, including deputy chairman of Republic Veteran Council Chingiz Huseynov, professor of State University of Languages Mahammad Teymurlu, Socialist Labor Hero, academician Ismayil Ibrahimov talked about preparatory works for the 65th anniversary of the victory, praising the National Program in this regard.
War veterans shared their memories of those years.
The conference also saw the launch of several books published on the eve of the 65 anniversary of the war.
