Iran, UNESCO to set up two joint academic seats
Two new academic seats will jointly be set up by Iran and UNESCO within the next two months.
Announcing this, secretary general of UNESCO National Commission in Iran, Mohammad Reza Saeedabadi told IRNA on Saturday that preliminary measures for establishing the seats titled ‘Communication of Industry and University for Sustainable Development’ and ‘Job Generation’ have earlier been taken.
The first seat will be set up in Iran’s Organization of Scientific and Industrial Researches in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) while the latter is to be jointly established in Tehran University’s Job Generation Faculty by Iran and UNESCO.
Since Iran became a member of UNESCO 60 years ago, only two departments namely ‘Health Education’ and ‘Peace and Human Rights’ had been set up in the country respectively in Tehran Medical Sciences and Shahid Beheshti universities, he said.
Saeedabadi who is in Paris to take part in the 35th General Conference of UNESCO said that Iran will propose a resolution titled ‘International Project on Draught’ to be finalized in the summit.
The 35th General Conference of UNESCO opened in Paris on October 6 and will continue until October 23.
UNESCO General Conference is one of the higher institutes of the UN cultural body which meets every two years with the participation of ministers from 193 member states.
Approval of 2010-2011 budget and review of the effects of economic crisis on the future of UNESCO are among the main topics of discussion in the ongoing 35th General Conference.
