INTERNATIONAL IBN ARABI SYMPOSIUM TO MARK 70th ANNIVERSARY OF ORIENTALIST AIDA IMANGULIYEVA KICKS OFF IN BAKU
An international Ibn Arabi symposium to mark the 70th anniversary of prominent Azerbaijani orientalist Aida Imanguliyeva has started here. The event brings together professors of the American George Washington and Boston universities, Maxim Gorky Institute of the World Literature under the Russian Academy of Sciences and St. Petersburg Oriental Manuscripts Institute, as well as scholars from Azerbaijan, France, Spain, Egypt, United Kingdom, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Algeria, Latvia and Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan`s state and government officials, and MPs.
Azerbaijan`s first lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador, MP, the prominent scholar`s daughter Mehriban Aliyeva was present at the event.
The symposium was opened by President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, academician Mahmud Karimov who described the event as “the continuation of a cross-cultural dialogue”.
Speakers at the event included Grenville Collins, Chairman of the Ibn Arabi Society, Alexander Kudelin, a Russian scholar, Anar, Chairman of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers, Seyid Huseyn Nasr, an American professor, and Mahmut Erol Kilic, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of the Islamic Countries` Member States.
Rector of the Moscow State University`s Baku branch, Aida Imanguliyeva`s daughter, professor Nargiz Pashayeva shared her memories about the life and carrier of the prominent orientalist.
