ASEAN Insurance Agencies meeting in Vientiane

Vientiane (VNA) – Representatives from national insurance agencies and insurance
firms in the region are taking part in the 12th meeting of the ASEAN Insurance
Agencies being held in Vientiane , Laos , from Oct. 7-9.

Participants were updated on changes in common policies on insurance to help each
country build its insurance laws.

Reports were also given on the impact of the global financial crisis on the
insurance sector in the region and the adjustment of insurance activities when the
world economy shows signs of recovery.

The host country briefed the participants about Laos ’ policies on socio-economic
development, including developing the insurance sector in cooperation with regional
countries, especially with Vietnam , in building insurance law and joint venture
companies.

The Lao National Insurance Agency announced an agreement on insurance for mechanical
vehicles passing through borders between Laos , Thailand , Vietnam and Cambodia
during the 25th SEA Games to be held in Laos later this year. The agreement was
signed between the four countries in late September.-Enditem
