Gerrard out of World Netball Series

Australian star defender Mo'onia Gerrard has been ruled out of the World Netball
Series in England after failing a last-minute fitness test on Thursday.
Gerrard, who has failed to recover with an ankle complaint, will also be rested from
Australia's upcoming Test matches against England and Jamaica.
Diamonds captain Sharelle McMahon has also withdrawn from the Twenty20-like series
starting on Friday in Manchester but will return to lead the team for the following
Test matches in Bath and Kingston.
Natalie von Bertouch will likely skipper the side in McMahon's absence and Gerrard
has been replaced by Rebecca Bulley.
The world series is being billed as a new netball competition with added "wow" factor.
New rules are being applied to the shorter game, include rolling substitutions,
shooting from outside the goal circle and power plays.
Australia open their world series campaign on Friday against Jamaica, who could
prove formidable in the new format with 1.95m shooter and goal attack Romelda Aiken
well suited to snap up rebounds after double-point goal attempts from outside the
circle.
