World Nuclear Disarment Proponents to Meet in Hiroshima Oct.18-20

Tokyo, Oct. 8 (Jiji Press)--An international nuclear disarmament
conference led by Japan and Australia will take place in Hiroshima Oct.
18-20, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

Participants of the fourth meeting of the International Commission
on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Disarmament aim to make final coordination
to map out a proposal by the end of the year for laying the groundwork for
nuclear weapons abolition.
The commission has so far broadly agreed to propose a two-step
approach toward the ultimate elimination of nuclear arms, after setting
medium-term reduction targets for the weapons.
The commission, cochaired by former Japanese Foreign Minister
Yoriko Kawaguchi and former Australian Foreign Minister Gareth Evans, was
formed in July 2008.
During the three-day event, the participants are scheduled to meet
atomic-bomb victims and visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Hiroshima
was atomic-bombed by the United States in 1945.
