Iran, Oman to collaborate in promoting Islamic languages
Iran and Oman agreed to cooperate in keeping alive the languages spoken in the Muslim world, especially Persian and Arabic, in UNESCO.
Iran’s Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini and the Omani education minister discussed the issue on the sidelines of the 35th General Conference of UNESCO.
The two countries will follow up the issue so that UNESCO and Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) will take necessary steps to that effect.
During the meeting, the two ministers made agreements on promoting Persian language teaching in Oman.
Hosseini has also conferred with the education ministers of Saudi Arab, Bangladesh and Iraq.
Hosseini arrived in Paris on Tuesday at the head of a delegation to take part in the 35th General Conference of UNESCO which opened on Tuesday. It will work until October 23.
UNESCO General Conference is one of the higher institutes of the UN cultural body which meets every two years with the participation of ministers from 193 member states.
The conference determines the policies and main lines of work of the organization, particularly through the examination and adoption of the biennial program and budget of international standard-setting instruments as well as number of other decisions on important issues.
