INCLUSION OF ASHYG ART IN UNESCO CULTURAL HERITAGE LIST WILL PROMOTE DEVELOPMENT OF FOLK ART, PEOPLE`S POET ZALIMKHAN YAGUB
Baku, 8 October (AzerTAc). As earlier informed, UNESCO`s Committee on Protection of Nonmaterial Cultural Heritage has included Azerbaijan`s art of ashug in UNESCO's world non-material cultural heritage list.
Thanks to efforts of the First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva the ashug art has been approved as a phenomenon of Oriental culture and songs on international level.
The art of ashugs, which emerged in ancient times, has been popular throughout the eastern world and now it became world recognized sample of Azerbaijani folk culture.
Commenting this landmark event, People`s Poet of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Union of Ashugs Zalimkhan Yagub said: “Inclusion of ashyg art in UNESCO Nonmaterial Cultural Heritage List will promote improvement of this folk art and open a new stage in development of this non-material heritage form”.
