Fires continue to burn across Queensland
As multiple bushfires continue to burn across Queensland, a paraglider has sparked a
grass fire on the Gold Coast.
The paraglider clipped power lines at Beechmont in the Gold Coast hinterland about
10.30am (AEST) on Sunday, but the pilot escaped injury.
A small blaze broke out in the tinder-dry conditions, but was soon extinguished by
firefighters.
Two helicopters waterbombed another grass fire that flared up on the Gold Coast at
Elanora about 1pm (AEST) on Sunday but emergency services said there was no threat
to any homes.
Meanwhile, fire crews continued to monitor a large grass fire on the Brisbane Valley
Highway at Coominya.
In central Queensland, waterbombing aircraft and 11 emergency crews battled a
bushfire near the old mining town of Mt Morgan, west of Rockhampton.
The firefighters carried out backburning and used bulldozers to carve out
containment lines.
Northwest of Townsville, fire crews saved several houses from a large grass fire in
Garland Road at Mt Low about 1pm (AEST) on Sunday.
Fire bans remain in place until midnight (AEST) on Monday.
