Cats' grand final jumpers stolen
Geelong premiership heroes Jimmy Bartel and Joel Selwood have made a public appeal
for the return of the guernseys they wore in the AFL grand final.
Of the Cats who played in last Saturday's grand final, they are the only ones so far
who have confirmed their jumpers are missing.
Selwood last saw his game-day guernsey on Sunday, while Bartel clearly remembers
packing his on Saturday night after the epic match, where Geelong beat St Kilda by
12 points.
The pair realised on Tuesday that the tops had gone.
"I've looked (through) my bag about 30 times and just looked all around my place,
it's just nowhere to be found, I'm disappointed," Selwood said on Wednesday.
"That and the premiership medallion are the two things you probably treasure most
from the game.
"I'd be gutted if anybody lifted it ... we're not throwing accusations at anybody,
we're just hoping (they are) returned.
"At the moment, we're happy not to press charges, we just want them back.
"If the police have to get involved down the track, we'll look at doing that."
Bartel said he had probably rung "20 different people" once he realised his guernsey
was gone.
He and Selwood only wore the one top during the match.
"It's very rare you get to win a premiership and you only have the one jumper, it's
something we can show family and friends as the years go by, it's pretty personal
and pretty special," Bartel said.
"For the actual game day (top) to go missing, with all the dirt and rubbish and
stink on it, it would be great to still have it.
"It's not going to dent my memories of winning a premiership, it's just made it a
bit disappointing.
"You like to have these things when you finish your career - we just want them back,
we don't care how."
There was a massive crush in Geelong's MCG change-rooms after the grand final.
The players' bags were transported to a couple of post-game functions and then back
to the club, where Geelong held a family day on Sunday.
