BAKU HOSTS SEMINAR ON CULTURAL HERITAGE AND TOURISM

Baku, 30 September (AzerTAc). A seminar on the role of utilizing the cultural and human heritage in popularizing tourism in Asian countries has kicked off here today within the framework of the “Baku-Capital of Islamic Culture 2009”. The seminar sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan and ISESCO Tehran’s regional office has been held at the Palace of Shirvanshakhs, bringing together experts from Azerbaijan, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Indonesia and Malaysia.
The seminar started with opening remarks of the Ministry’s spokesman Rizvan Bayramov, who said that about 100 cultural events have been carried out in Azerbaijan this year as part of the “Baku – Capital of Islamic Culture 2009”.
Head of the ISESCO regional office in Tehran Abbas Sedri underscored that these events were very well organized, adding that the seminar will undoubtedly contribute to the protection of cultural heritage.
The seminar is scheduled to discuss new projects concerning protection of cultural heritage and tourism potential. Also guests are expected to visit historical monuments of Absheron peninsula. The seminar will end on October 2.
