Iranian FM meets counterparts in New York
Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki met with a number of his counterparts in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
In a meeting with Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Aman, Mottaki stressed the need for the Non-Aligned Movement to take a more active role in the political arena.
He also demanded an enhanced role for the UN General Assembly.
The Iranian FM also hailed the cooperation between the two countries in international forums and, pointing out that Iran is going to take on the next presidency of the NAM, said the movement as the second biggest political coalition in the international scale was improving its performance following a period of inaction.
Datuk highlighted the importance of closer cooperation among NAM member states and supported countries' rights to get access to the peaceful nuclear technology within the framework of international regulations.
In a separate meeting with Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Mottaki reviewed mutual and international issues and stressed reinforcement of bilateral coopeation.
The Cuban foreign minister said expansion of economic ties was beneficial to both countries.
Meanwhile, Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh in his meeting with the Iranian foreign minister hoped for further expansion of ties between the two countries.
