Honda Seeks Japan Govt Action over Yen Surge

Tokyo, Sept. 28 (Jiji Press)--Honda Motor Co. <7267> President
Takanobu Ito asked the Japanese government Monday to take action as the
yen's rapid rise threatens the country's exporters.

The government may not be in a situation where it can just sit and
watch, Ito said in an interview with Jiji Press.
The yen briefly rose to around 88.70 to the dollar in Tokyo Monday,
its highest level in about eight months.
Current exchange rates are within the company's expectations but
are quite tough for Japanese manufacturers in the long term, Ito said.
The Japanese government should take into account the country's
manufacturer-led industrial structure, he said.
A strong yen erodes the value of manufacturers' earnings overseas,
threatening an economy emerging from a slump on a pickup in exports.
Ito said his company will sell electric motorcycles to individual
customers as well as corporate clients.
The company plans to release electric motorcycles in Japan in 2011.
