Japan to formulate alternative Afghan support plan before Obama visit+
TOKYO, Sept. 27 Kyodo - Japan plans to formulate reconstruction support measures for Afghanistan in lieu of a refueling mission in the Indian Ocean before U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to Japan eyed for November, Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada said Sunday.
''It would be desirable that there are answers to some extent before his visit
to Japan,'' Okada said during an NHK television program.
Japan's new government led by the Democratic Party of Japan plans to withdraw
its maritime force from the refueling mission in support of U.S.-led
antiterrorism military operations in Afghanistan in January.
As alternative measures, Japan is studying offering job training, agricultural
technology teaching and medical support.
