I AM CONFIDENT TURKEY WILL TAKE NO STEP TO HURT AZERBAIJAN, AZERI VICE SPEAKER
Baku, 26 September (AzerTAc). “I believe and am confident that Turkey will not take any step to hurt Azerbaijan”, Milli Majlis first vice-speaker Ziyafat Asgarov told journalists.
He noted “Turkey and Azerbaijan are fraternal countries and as national leader Heydar Aliyev said we are one nation, two states”.
Asgarov underlined establishing diplomatic ties with Armenia was a sovereign right of Turkey which he described as “an independent and very powerful country.” “We can not interfere with Turkey`s internal affairs, but it has its own commitments.”
Asgarov said “we all know that official Turkey closed its border with Armenia in 1993 because of Armenia`s groundless genocide and territorial claims against it and the occupation of the Azerbaijani territories”.
“I do not believe that Turkey will open its border with Armenia unless it implements the mentioned terms”, he added.
Asgarov also pointed out “we trust in statements by Turkish officials including President, Prime Minister and Parliament speaker and are sure that our fraternal relations will further continue”.
