AZERBAIJAN FM HELD A NUMBER OF MEETINGS IN NEW YORK
Baku, 25 September (AzerTAc). As earlier informed, in the frame of his visit to New York on September 24, FM of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov has met heads of the Jewish organizations of the USA.
Expressing satisfaction with the atmosphere of high tolerance in Azerbaijan, representatives of the Jewish organizations highly appreciated successful visit of the President of Israel Shimon Peres to Azerbaijan, and also the congratulation of President Ilham Aliyev addressed to the Jewish community on the occasion of the national New Year holiday of the Jewish people, Rosh-Ha-Shana.
Azeri Foreign Minister noted ethno-cultural variety in modern Azerbaijan society, among the members of which, irrespective of their religious and ethnic origin, there are traditionally friendly and brotherly relations, exemplary atmosphere of tolerance. “This is one of the main properties of national statehood in my country”, the Azeri Minister said.
The meeting focused on exchange of views on regional problems, settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the relation of Azerbaijan to regional and global processes.
The same day, Minister Mammadyarov met the chief of the Federal Department of foreign affairs of Swiss Confederation Micheline Calmy-Rey.
At the meeting, where regional power projects and security issues were discussed, the parties also underlined current situation and prospects of development of relations between two countries, importance of effective use of existing possibilities for cooperation.
Mr. Micheline Calmy-Rey said that Azerbaijan plays important role in power security of Europe.
E. Mammadyarov noted that without settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict it is impossible to provide peace and security in region, in detail informing on position of Azerbaijan concerning the problem settlement.
On September 24, E. Mammadyarov met Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference.
At the meeting, highly were praised connections between Azerbaijan and OIC.
E. Mammadyarov underlined that cooperation with the Islamic world is one of the priorities of foreign policy of Azerbaijan.
At the meeting with his Lebanese colleague Fauzi Salluh, Mr. Mammadyarov discussed cooperation development between two countries, situation in the Near East and Southern Caucasus and other questions representing mutual interest.
Azeri FM`s last meeting was with the State Secretary and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev. The Ministers discussed current state and prospects of development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, the planned visits at high level, cooperation on the international organisations, questions of regional security.
