SA youngster leads World BMX Supercross
Australia's Sam Willoughby has jumped to the lead of the World Cup BMX Supercross
Series with second place in the weekend round at Chula Vista, California.
Latvia's Olympic gold medallist Maris Strombergs won the race.
Willoughby won the previous Supercross in South Africa and has a comfortable series
lead with just one round remaining.
The 18-year-old also won his second World Junior title in his home town of Adelaide
in July.
Meanwhile, Melbourne rider Murray Spink claimed the national marathon mountain bike
title with a close win in Sunday's 105km race at Bendigo.
Just two hundredths of a second behind was Port Macquarie's Jason English while
Victorian Neil Van der Ploeg another one hundredth of a second behind in third
place. The women's event was a Victorian sweep with former national champion Tory
Thomas winning from Bendigo's Peta Mullens and Melbourne's Jenni King.
In road racing, NSW rider Richard Lang won the 170km Goulburn to Sydney classic from
Jonathon Cantwell and Bernard Sulzberger.
