Neale claims his donation totals $16,000
British backpacker Jamie Neale says he has donated $16,000 of his own money to the
rescue agencies that searched bushland during his 12 days lost in the Blue
Mountains.
It emerged on Thursday the 19-year-old had given $1,500 to the Blue Mountains State
Emergency Service, just a fraction of the $200,000 brokered for the story of how he
survived on bush tucker and slept under logs.
At the time, Neale said part of the deal with the Nine Network's 60 Minutes program
was that rescue services receive $100,000 worth of local advertising to inform
people about proper preparation for hikes.
On Friday, Neale's Australian representative, Sean Anderson, said money had also
been paid to NSW Police and the Blue Mountains Hospital, with donations totalling
$16,000.
