Nine return negative Hendra results

Nine people who came into contact with sick horses from a Hendra virus outbreak in
north Queensland have returned negative results.
Eleven people were identified as coming into contact with one or both of the horses
that died on a property at Bowen, but two people refused to be tested for the virus.
One of the horses that died tested positive to Hendra virus.
Queensland Health said initial tests on the nine people had returned negative, but
follow-up testing was needed at three and six weeks after exposure.
"While no evidence of Hendra virus infection has been detected in the baseline tests
conducted so far, it does not mean the contacts can be given the all-clear," a
spokesperson said in a statement.
The follow-up testing has been offered to all 11 people concerned.
Rockhampton vet Dr Alister Rodgers died earlier this month from the virus after
treating infected horses in August at J4S stud at Cawarral, in central Queensland.
