ROUNDTABLE MEETING ON INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION ON COMBATING HUMAN TRAFFICKING HELD IN BAKU
Baku, September 17 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs and YES Azerbaijan organization co-organized a “roundtable” meeting on international cooperation to fight trafficking in human beings.
Chairwoman of the Committee Hijran Huseynova said Azerbaijan had done a lot to fight human trafficking. So, she added, in accordance with provisions of the Brussels Declaration on Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, the Azerbaijani government adopted a National Action Plan for Fighting Human Trafficking. She also added National Coordinating Council was established in Azerbaijan with an aim to prevent human trafficking, adding the Council cooperates with government bodies, international structures and NGOs.
Honorary president of Belgian Senate Anne-Marie Lizin said her country had been seriously fighting human trafficking since 60s of the 20th century. She underlined the necessity of international cooperation to achieve tangible results on the issue.
Deputy Chief of Azerbaijan State Migration Service Parviz Musayev said majority of human trafficking victims were migrants. He also noted investigation was underway Azerbaijan to discover illegal migrants.
Present at the event were parliamentarians, public figures, NGOs representatives and others.
