Baku, September 15 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan`s delegation led by President of National Academy of Sciences Mahmud Karimov is attending the 53rd session of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria.
Addressing the event, bringing together 1500 representatives from more than 100 countries, Karimov briefed the participants on his country`s “fruitful” cooperation with IAEA.
He said a State Agency on Control of Nuclear and Radiation Activities under the Ministry of Emergency Situations was established in Azerbaijan in accordance with President Ilham Aliyev`s order.
He said Azerbaijan backs the use of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Karimov pointed out Azerbaijan, exporting its energy resources, contributes to ensuring energy security in Eurasia.
On the Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan, Karimov said the fact that 20 percent of the Azerbaijani territories are under occupation poses threat to regional stability in the region. He added Armenia ignores the international community`s demands to stop aggression against Azerbaijan.
Karimov said aggressive separatism, uncontrolled areas, conflicts and occupation of territories pose threat to transportation of energy recourses, as well.
He also spoke of the illegal turnover of nuclear and radioactive materials in the occupied territories and the threat of radioactive terrorism.
According to Karimov, international cooperation within IAEA reduces using of nuclear and radioactive materials for terrorism purposes.
