Human Hendra tests come back negative

Initial tests on horses on three properties placed under quarantine at Bowen in
north Queensland have come back negative.
However, all 16 horses on the affected properties will remain under quarantine until
the period of virus incubation has passed and all tests have returned negative
results, the Department of Primary Industries said in a statement on Tuesday.
The horses live on three properties neighbouring a Bowen hobby farm where three
horses have died, including one confirmed with the Hendra virus.
Earlier on Tuesday, Queensland Health announced that initial tests on six people
believed to be at risk of having the deadly virus had proved negative.
Ten people who had contact with horses at the centre of a Hendra virus outbreak on a
Bowen property in north Queensland have been blood tested.
The results from the remaining four tests are expected to be known by Thursday.
All ten will require follow up testing before they are given the all-clear.
Rockhampton vet Dr Alister Rodgers died earlier this month from the virus after
treating infected horses in August at J4S stud at Cawarral in central Queensland.
Community engagement efforts continue in Bowen and surrounding locations this week.
