Turkey likely venue for hosting Iran talks: Solana

Turkey is a possible venue for hosting the October 1 talks between the five UN veto powers plus Germany and Iran, Germany's press agency dpa quoted EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana as saying Tuesday.

"I think it is very likely that it will be Turkey," Solana was cited saying on the sidelines of an EU foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels.
A final decision has not been made yet, according to the EU official.
Solana refused to speculate about tightening sanctions against Iran, if talks about Tehran's nuclear program fail.
At this time, we are trying to start negotiations, he stressed.
We have always supported a double-track system and we will continue to do so, Solana added.
He was referring to the western double-track approach towards Iran, comprised of the EU offer to step up cooperation as well as punitive measures, if Tehran rejects the closer cooperation offer.
