Heads of Iranian, Russian atomic organizations meet


Heads of Iranian and Russian atomic organizations met and conferred on sidelines of IAEA Annual General Assembly here Monday.

According to IRNA correspondent in Vienna, the Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi told IRNA after his meeting with Sergei Kiriyenko that he had good talks with his Russian counterpart, adding, “We discussed issues regarding Bushehr Nuclear Plant and our future bilateral cooperation.”
He said, “We reached results regarding Bushehr and we hope the plant would be put to use as soon as possible,” adding, “of course we do not announce an exact date, since selecting between security and faster launching of the reactor, we would definitely choose the former option.”
Salehi reiterated, “Our entire efforts are aimed at observing the entire security measures at Bushehr Nuclear Plant, which is of extreme importance for the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
He said, “All the same it was agreed that the activities at Bushehr Nuclear Plant would be pursued at an acceptable speed and to increase the number of the technicians working there.”
Salehi also said that he had negotiations with Kiriyenko regarding Iran’s future plans for construction of new nuclear plants with his Russian counterpart, not explaining the reason why keeping in mind that the Russians have numerous times delayed their commitment for putting to use Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Reactor.
