Pak says no rockets were fired across the border
Islamabad, Sep 13 (PTI) Dismissing contention by
Indian officials that several rockets were fired from
Pakistani side on the Wagah Border, Pakistan Sunday said it
has lodged a protest over firing by Indian border guards from
across the border.
"They (Indian troops) opened fire with rifles without
giving us time to investigate the source of the fire and a
protest has been lodged with India on local commanders'
level," chief military spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas told
reporters.
Indian officials have maintained that Border Security
Force personnel resorted to retaliatory firing after rockets
fired from the Pakistani side exploded inside Indian territory
yesterday morning.
They said India had also lodged "a very strong
protest".
Pakistani officials have denied that any rockets were
fired across the border. Abbas said Pakistan did not respond
to the gunfire from the Indian side to avert any escalation of
tension on the border.
The two sides have occasionally exchanged fire along
the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir but firing on the
international border is rare. PTI RHL
