Russia says ready to boost cooperation, ties with Iran

A top Russian official said Moscow will continue to expand and boost cooperation with Iran.

In an exclusive interview with IRNA on Saturday, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Andrei Nesterenko referred to Iran’s important position in regional political and security situation and said Moscow always welcomed expansion of ties and upgrading level of its cooperation with Tehran.

He said Russia was happy with its relations with Iran and, saying that Moscow followed a transparent and straightforward policy towards Iran, stressed that no secret and hidden issues existed in Russia-Iran relations and his country never tried to conceal its tendency for ties with Iran.

He further described Iran as a very important political and economic player in the region.

Commenting on the recent meeting among four of Caspian Sea littoral countries in Kazakhstan, the Russian diplomat stressed that no conclusion could ever be reached on the issue in the absence of each of the countries neighboring the Caspian Sea.

Nesterenko believed cooperation with Iran which he sees as an influential and very significant country in the Caspian Sea region will result in stability, security and boosting economic and trade situation in the region.
