Chinese Premier Wen hopes to meet Hatoyama soon+
BEIJIING, Sept. 9 Kyodo - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao told a Japanese business delegation Wednesday he would like to meet with Democratic Party of Japan leader Yukio Hatoyama soon after he becomes prime minister next week, delegation members said.
Wen was quoted as saying he hopes to discuss the future direction of
Japan-China relations with Hatoyama.
The Chinese premier also noted that he has paid attention to Hatoyama's comment
about giving priority to the expansion of Japan-China relations, the members
said.
Wen was the first Chinese leader to make a specific comment on Japan's incoming
DPJ-led administration since the DPJ won an overwhelming victory in the Aug. 30
House of Representatives election, ousting the Liberal Democratic Party from
power.
Hatoyama, set to be named prime minister Sept. 16, is expected to visit China
in early October for a Japan-China-South Korea summit.
Wen also expressed hope of visiting Japan, they said.
Japan Business Federation Chairman Fujio Mitarai, who headed the delegation
sent by the Japan-China Business Association, told reporters that he would like
to convey Premier Wen's message to Hatoyama.
The members said Mitarai told Wen that he hopes Japan's new administration will
make efforts to solidify strategically reciprocal relations between Japan and
China.
Wen and the Japanese group discussed how best to overcome the current global
recession and promote Japan-China cooperation in the areas of environment and
high technology and agreed to enhance bilateral economic ties to get the world
economy on a recovery path, the members said.
Premier Wen explained that the Chinese economic situation has improved as a
result of a large-scale economic stimulus package and encouraged Japan's
business sector to expand technological cooperation and investments in China in
high technology and energy conservation areas, they said.
The Japanese delegation requested the Chinese government to maintain good
relations with the Japanese government to support bilateral business
cooperation even under the new Japanese administration, the members said.
