Army major, three militants killed as infiltration bid foiled

Poonch (J&K), Sept 9 (PTI) An army major was killed as
troops foiled an infiltration bid in Mendhar sector of the
bordering district overnight gunning down three militants in
north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Major Akash Singh succumbed to bullet injuries when
the infiltrators fired at the troops near LoC in Sona Gali
area of Mendhar sector, about 200 kms from Jammu, defence
officials said on Wednesday.

Two militants were killed in the subsequent encounter.
Another militant was killed Wednesday morning, they said,
adding some weapons and a wireless set were recovered from the
slain militants.

Search operations were still going on in the area when
