XXII CONGRESS OF EURASIAN ASSOCIATION OF THE TRADE-UNION ORGANIZATIONS OF UNIVERSITIES OPENS IN BAKU
Baku, September 7 (AzerTAc). The XXII Congress of the Eurasian Association of the Trade-Union Organizations of Universities today opened in Baku State University (BSU).
The event is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Baku University.
Prior to the Congress, participants visited the Alley of Honors to pay tribute to the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev. The delegates also revered memory of the renowned ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva, and put flowers at her tomb.
At the opening, attending was the president of Association Igor Kotlobovsky, rector of BSU Abel Maharramov, the chairman of trade-union committee of the Kiev National University after Shevchenko, Vladimir Tsvykh. Delegations from Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan also take part at the event.
In the opening remarks, rector of BSU Abel Maharramov characterized the Association of the Trade-Union Organizations of Universities as the largest organization of effective cooperation in the CIS space.
As stated, the organization is non-political institution and unites over 60 universities of the CIS countries. The goal is regional integration into spheres of education.
The Association`s president Igor Kotlobovsky in his speech underlined importance of joint efforts on protection of the civil rights of workers, exchange of experience between universities, and organization of various scientific-practical conferences.
At opening of the Congress, rector of BSU Abel Maharramov was handed over a medal devoted to the 100th anniversary of trade unions of Russia, and also a special gift from Association in honor of 90-year-old anniversary of BSU, for deepening friendship between the people.
In the frame of Congress, the Baku and Moscow State Universities signed a contract on cooperation between the trade-union organizations of two Universities. The agreement provides organizing mutual visits of delegations.
Also expected is signing of the contract on cooperation between Baku and Kiev State Universities.
The Congress will continue its work on 8 September.
