Howard recovering after health scare

Former prime minister John Howard is resting at home after spending two nights in
hospital because of a severe allergic reaction to an anaesthetic on Friday.
Opposition frontbencher Tony Abbott says Mr Howard, 70, was able to enjoy Father's
Day at home in Wollstonecraft in Sydney's north on Sunday after he was discharged
that morning from Royal North Shore Private Hospital.
"I spoke to him this afternoon and he was chirpy, joking and saying what a pleasant
Father's Day he'd had," Mr Abbott told AAP on Sunday evening.
He said Mr Howard was having some routine dental treatment on Friday at Castlecrag
Private Hospital when he suffered an anaphylactic reaction to the anaesthetic.
Mr Howard was rushed to Royal North Shore by ambulance where he was immediately
treated.
"He came home this morning, he'll probably take it easy for the next couple of days
but that's all it was, just a reaction to an anaesthetic, there'll be no long-term
effects whatsoever," Mr Abbott said.
"He'll probably be on the golf course next weekend, I suspect."
