Unemployment in July down 1.2% year-on-year

BANGKOK, Sept 5 (TNA) - Thailand’s unemployment in July this year stood at 480,000, down 1.2 per cent from a year ago, according to the state-run National Statistical Office.

Information released by the National Statistical Office said people above 15-year-old and were in workforce nationwide totaled 39.29 million of which 38.79 million were employed in July, 480,000 were jobless and 20,000 people were ‘seasonal workers’.

Unemployment in the agricultural sector suffered the most setback as 90,000 people became jobless followed by 60,000 workers in the construction sector compared to the same period of 2008, it said.

It said unemployment in the Central and Northeastern regions was highest with each region having 120,000 people out of work followed by the North with 110,000 people were left unemployed, the South 70,000 and 50,000 people in the capital. (TNA)
