ElBaradei once again reiterates Iran's peaceful nuclear program

– Iran’s Ambassador to the IAEA Ali-Asghar Soltanieh said Friday evening that the IAEA chief has once again emphasized on the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.

Talking to reporters, he added that Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mohamed ElBaradei, in his new report, has, for the 20th time, stressed on the peaceful nature of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear activities.

In his report, ElBaradei has thanked Tehran for its cooperation with the IAEA inspectors who have received permission to visit Arak’s heavy water reactor and the Natanz complex, Soltanieh said.

He added that such an appreciation indicates that the Islamic Republic of Iran has continued its cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog and would agree with any request within Iran’s commitments based on the technical and legal frameworks.

However, the Islamic Republic will not accept any political pressure aimed at doing anything beyond its legal commitments, the envoy reiterated.

Giving permission to the IAEA inspectors to inspect the Arak reactor proves transparency in Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, he said, urging those countries ignoring the realities of Iran’s nuclear activities, not to make themselves isolated at the international scene.

Although ElBaradei’s reports have never been satisfactory, Tehran appreciates his last report in which, despite all political pressures, he has admitted that the country’s nuclear program is peaceful and civilian, Soltanieh said.

He added that Tehran expects the new IAEA chief not to damage the agency’s technical atmosphere with political discussions and put an end to all issues.

The Iranian envoy once again reiterated that Tehran would continue its constructive cooperation with the agency within its commitments while rejecting any kind of diplomatic pressures and measures beyond its legal obligations.
