-TURKEY-PAKISTAN CONTAINER-TRAIN ARRIVES AT HAYDARPASA, ISTANBUL


ANKARA (A.A) - 28.08.2009 - Turkey-Pakistan container freight train arrived at Haydarpasa Train Station in Istanbul after completing 6,566-km railway journey in 13 days.
A statement by Turkish State Railways (TCDD) said on Friday that the freight train had departed from the Pakistani city of Islamabad on August 14 to test the newly established railway between Turkey, Iran and Pakistan.
The train journey from Islamabad to Istanbul takes 13 days while travelling from European countries to Pakistan via seaway takes almost 40-45 days.
The Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul railway project aims at boosting economic cooperation among Pakistan, Iran and Turkey at the first stage and with the other ECO member countries afterwards.
