AZERI FM MEETS ECUADOR`s CANDIDATE FOR UNESCO DIRECTOR GENERAL
Baku, 24 August (AzerTAc). Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov met today with visiting Ivonne Baki, candidate for Director General of UNESCO, nominated by Ecuador.
Ms. Baki briefed Mammadyarov on her pre-election platform.
According to her, in case she is elected she will make every effort to contribute to strengthening UNESCO`s activities across the world. Baki also added she relies on Azerbaijan`s support.
Mammadyarov, in turn, stressed the necessity of UNESCO for Azerbaijan. He praised the current level of Azerbaijan-UNESCO relationship.
Stressing that First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva is Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO, the Minister underlined cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Organization has expanded recently.
The Minister pointed out countries nominated their candidates for the post appealed to Azerbaijan for support, and “at present, we consider them”.
The sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
