Glory beat Jets for first win of season
Perth Glory capitalised on their first home game of the A-League season with a 2-0
win over the Newcastle Jets at ME Bank Stadium on Sunday.
The crowd of over 9000 fans was a good result as well for the Glory considering the
wet weather and an AFL match at Subiaco at the same time.
Wayne Srhoj scored 23 minutes into the game and a tremendous strike from Adriano
Pellegrino in the 71st minute secured the Glory's first win of the season.
It was a dominant performance by the new-look Perth while Newcastle hardly created
an opportunity and have work to do after a win, loss and draw.
Perth began their campaign on the road with losses to Adelaide and Wellington, but
found better form in the second half against the Phoenix before outplaying the Jets
for the majority of the 90 minutes.
The Glory created the best chances on goal in the first half and were rewarded when
Mile Sterjovski put in a great ball for Srhoj to get in behind Newcastle's defence
to slot home a good goal.
An increasingly frustrated Newcastle received five yellow cards from referee Craig
Zetter in the first half.
Ljubo Milicevic, Ben Kantarovski (who went off with an ankle injury), Sasho
Petrovski, Fabio Vignaroli and Kantarovski's replacement Sean Rooney were all
booked.
Perth play the Melbourne Victory on Friday night while Newcastle will host the
on-fire Gold Coast United on Sunday.
