Foreign Minister to attend former South Korean president Kim Dae-jung's funeral
BANGKOK, Aug 22 (TNA) -- Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya will represent Thailand at the state funeral of former South Korean president Kim Dae-jung on Sunday at Seoul”s National Assembly Plaza, according to a foreign ministry announcement.
Mr. Kim, who held office between 1998-2003, died Tuesday aged 85 after fighting with pneumonia. He is best known for his policy of engagement with North Korea which has improved relations between the two countries.
Their Majesties the King and Queen as well as Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn sent their condolences on Wednesday over Mr. Kim’s death to President Lee Myung-bak, the announcement said.
Thailand and South Korea celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations on October 1 last year in which several activities were held, including a visit by Korean war veterans. (TNA)
