Chidambaram on 3-day visit to Bhutan



New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) India Home Minister P Chidambaram
Friday left for Bhutan on a three-day official visit during
which he is likely to discuss issues related to border
security and activities of northeast militants.

During his visit, Chidambaram will meet King Jigme Khesar
Namgyel Wangchuck, Prime Minister Jigmi Y Thinley, former king
Jigme Singye Wangchuck, Minister for Home and Cultural Affairs
Minjur Dorji and other leaders.

"The visit will enhance bilateral relations between India
and Bhutan and cooperation in different common areas," a Home
Ministry official said.

Chidambaram is expected to discuss issues related to
security along border and activities of northeast militants
besides others, sources said.

Bhutan was a major base for banned United Liberation
Front of Asom (ULFA) and National Democratic Front of Bodoland
(NDFB) militants till 2003 when the country's Royal Army
launched a major offensive against them to flush them out of
