ANKARA (A.A) - 17.08.2009 - The unemployment rate of Turkey dropped in May, 2009 when compared to April, 2009.
Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK) announced on Monday that the unemployment rate, which was 14.9 percent in April 2009, dropped to 13.6 percent in May, 2009. However, it increased 4.4 percent when compared to May, 2008.
The unemployment rate was 9.2 percent in May, 2008.
The unemployment rate, which was 15.8 percent in March 2009, dropped 2.2 points in March-May period of 2009.
TUIK calculated the rate of participation in labor-force as 48.2 percent in May, 2009. This rate was 47.2 percent in April, 2009, and 47.4 percent in May, 2008.
The unemployment rate was 16.5 percent in cities, and 7.8 percent in rural areas.
